What it is
Somatropin is recombinant human growth hormone: a 191-amino acid protein (approx. 22.1 kDa, CAS 12629-01-5), identical to the hormone produced by the anterior pituitary gland. It is therefore not a peptide in the sense of the rest of this catalogue but a full protein, and it is expressed not in milligrams but in international units (IU). Because it is a protein, it is not listed in the PubChem molecular index.
Literature
Growth hormone is one of the best-documented endocrine topics. Nature Reviews Endocrinology published an overview of the history and current state of research in 2018; international guidelines describe clinical use in paediatric growth hormone deficiency, and a 2024 systematic review maps its prevalence. That research concerns supervised medical use in diagnosed deficiency, a context unrelated to this product.
