What it is
Bacteriostatic water is sterile water to which 0.9% benzyl alcohol has been added as a preservative. Benzyl alcohol (CAS 100-51-6, 108.14 g/mol) inhibits the growth of bacteria: bacteriostatic, not bactericidal. This allows multiple withdrawals from the same vial, whereas sterile water without preservative is intended for single use.
Laboratory use
It is the standard solvent for reconstituting lyophilised peptides. This vial contains 3 ml of clear solution; there is nothing to reconstitute. The volume added per vial determines the concentration: 10 mg in 2 ml yields 5 mg/ml, 10 mg in 3 ml yields 3.33 mg/ml. The peptide calculator converts this and also calculates how many vials are required.
Handling and storage
Work aseptically: disinfect the septum before each withdrawal and use a new needle each time. Store unopened at room temperature and protected from light; after the first withdrawal, keep refrigerated at 2–8 °C. Do not use if turbid or discoloured. For laboratory use only.

This is the solvent. Calculation example (laboratory information): 10 mg lyophilisate + 2 ml bacteriostatic water = 5 mg/ml; one 3 ml vial then covers one vial (1 ml remains). Allow the water to run down the glass wall and swirl gently, do not shake. See the reconstitution guide and the peptide calculator.

What is the difference between bacteriostatic and sterile water?
Bacteriostatic water contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative, allowing multiple withdrawals from the same vial. Sterile water without a preservative is for single use.
How many bottles do I need per vial?
That depends on the volume you choose per vial: at 2 or 3 ml, one 3 ml bottle is sufficient for one vial, at 1 ml for three vials. The peptide calculator counts the number of bottles for your entire order.
How do I store bacteriostatic water?
Unopened at room temperature, protected from light. After the first withdrawal, refrigerated at 2–8 °C; do not use in case of turbidity or discoloration.
Do I still need to prepare the water?
No, it is supplied as a clear solution. During reconstitution, allow it to run down the glass wall into the peptide vial and swirl gently, without shaking.
Is there a lab report for the water?
Bacteriostatic water is not a peptide; a purity report such as for the peptides does not apply here. Lab reports for the peptides can be found on the certificates page.
How do I place an order?
Place products in your shopping cart and complete the order at checkout. There you enter your details, choose a payment method, and confirm the three mandatory declarations. You will immediately receive a confirmation by email with the overview and, in case of payment by bank transfer, the payment details.
When will my order be shipped?
Ordered and paid before 22:00 on business days: shipped the same day. In the case of a bank transfer, the time your payment is received applies. After 22:00, on weekends, or on public holidays, your order will be dispatched on the next business day. If it is busy, this will be stated at the top of the site with the new shipping date.
