What it is
Kisspeptin-10 is the decapeptide fragment (YNWNSFGLRF-NH2) of the KISS1 gene product: ten amino acids, 1302.4 g/mol, formula C63H83N17O14, CAS 374675-21-5. It binds to the KISS1 receptor (KISS1R, formerly GPR54) and is thus located upstream in the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis: kisspeptin neurons control the release of GnRH.
Research
The topic gained attention in 2003 when the New England Journal of Medicine described that inactivating mutations in the receptor are associated with absent puberty. Physiological Reviews published an overview of kisspeptin and neurokinin B in reproductive health in 2025; other work focuses on its role in the regulation of the HPG axis. Research is largely endocrinological and clinical-physiological in nature.

Which kisspeptin form is this?
Kisspeptine-10: the C-terminal decapeptide (amino acids 45–54 of metastin). Longer forms such as kisspeptin-54 also exist; the literature on those forms does not automatically apply to this fragment.
What is the difference with hCG?
Kisspeptin acts high in the axis, on the KISS1 receptor in the hypothalamus that controls GnRH. hCG is a large glycoprotein hormone that acts directly on the LH receptor. They are different substances with a different site of action.
