What is Semax?
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro): the ACTH(4-7) fragment with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail. This tail serves stability: it delays enzymatic degradation relative to the bare fragment. Molecular weight 813,9 g/mol, CAS 80714-61-0. The compound was developed in Russia and is registered there; not outside of it.
Research
Semax is investigated in preclinical neuropharmacological research. Work in rats describes the expression of BDNF and the receptor TrkB in the hippocampus; a study in the British Journal of Pharmacology (2025) describes engagement with the μ-opioid receptor gene Oprm1 in a mouse model of spinal cord injury. Part of the older literature appeared only in Russian, which makes it more difficult to weigh than for most compounds here.

What is the difference between Semax and Selank?
Both carry the same Pro-Gly-Pro tail, but the core differs: Semax is derived from ACTH(4-7), Selank from tuftsin. They have a different sequence, mass, and CAS number and are sometimes investigated alongside each other in the literature.
Why do some sources state 'ACTH(4-10) analogue'?
Older literature refers to Semax as an analogue of ACTH(4-10). The sequence is ACTH(4-7) followed by Pro-Gly-Pro; both descriptions refer to the same compound (CAS 80714-61-0).
