What it is
NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, 663.4 g/mol, CAS 53-84-9) is not a peptide but a coenzyme: a dinucleotide present in every cell that transfers electrons in hundreds of redox reactions. In addition, it serves as a substrate for enzymes that consume NAD+, such as sirtuins and the PARP family.
What research focuses on
That second pathway is where aging research focuses. A widely cited review in Science (2015) discusses NAD+ in metabolism, aging, and neurodegeneration. A review in Nature Reviews Molecular Cell Biology (2021) describes that tissue levels of NAD+ decline with age in rodents, humans, and other organisms. The effects of restoring these levels have largely been studied in animal models; translation to humans remains the subject of ongoing research.

Is NAD+ a peptide?
No. NAD+ is a coenzyme (a dinucleotide), not a chain of amino acids. It is included in this category because it appears in the same aging research as the peptides here.
What is the difference between NAD+, NMN and NR?
